50th Anniversary of the Faculty of Stomatology: Jubilee Congress

On 24 May, 2012 International Congress dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of the Faculty of Stomatology was held at Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU). Specialists from both the Republic of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, as well as delegations from abroad attended the solemn opening ceremony.

While addressing welcome speech to the participants of the Congress, Prof. Derenik Dumanyan, the Rector of YSMU, said:

«It is my pleasure to welcome you at the opening of the II International Congress dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of the Faculty of Stomatology of Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi. I am also pleased to inform that this Congress can safely be characterized as bringing together the best stomatologists – about 700 people - of Armenia and Artsakh, as well as distinguished specialists from Germany, Georgia, Iran, Canada, Russia, the U.S., Ukraine, Finland and Switzerland.»

Underscoring the importance of the Congress, Prof. Harutyun Kushkyan, RA Minister of Health said: «Our country has always presented best of its stomatology to the world, meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has always has been proud of its specialists and has consistently assisted in the realization of the best target programs.»

People addressing their speeches on the occasion of the Congress go as follows:

Gold medals of Association of Stomatological Education and Science were granted to Prof. Harutyun Kushkyan, Minister of Health, and to other distinguished persons having had significant contribution to the development of Stomatology: namely to Vilen Hakobyan, Academician of National Academy of Sciences; Prof. Khachatur Badalyan, one of the first professors of the Faculty of Stomatology; Prof. Valery Tatintsyan, meritorious scientific worker; Prof. Vahagn Kirakosyan; Prof. Karen Lalayan; Prof. Viktor Melkumov; Prof. Pavel Mayilyan - author of an invention in medicine; the first graduates of the Faculty of Stomatology; teachers of the Faculty - Hasmik Khachatryan, Edgar Yeghikyan; Anna Minalyan - first postgraduate student of the Medical University.

It is noteworthy that the first graduates of the Faculty of Stomatology of Yerevan State Medical Institute, having attained their diplomas in 1967, were granted certificates of honor by the Association of Stomatological Education and Science. Some of them, to a great regret, have received the certificates posthumously.

The Congress was initiated to promote the improvement of professional skills also aiming at strengthening scientific relations and establishing new partnership.
