«Heratsi’ Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory

Head of the clinic: Gayane S. Petrosyan

The hospital has more than 100 years’ history. During the whole period of hospital’s functioning, the laboratory service has been one of the most important diagnostic links. Since the day of its establishment many skilful and experienced professionals have been working in the laboratory: N.L. Varduni, M.S.Melik-Israelyan, M.E. Martirosyan, E.V. Ioanesyan, R.V. Hovhannisyan, V.A. Asoyan, L.R. Krikyan, L.R. Gharibyan, H.Sh. Harutyunyan and others have managed to secure and maintain good traditions and prestige of the laboratory.

Besides the fact that the laboratory complies with time requirements, has appropriate analyzers and reagents, all the examinations are being held in good faith.

In October 2010 the Laboratory was supplemented by technical equipments with the financial assistance of «Electric networks of Armenia» LLC and was renamed into University Clinical Diagnostic laboratory.

The Diagnostic centre implements the following services:

  • Biochemical and Immunochemical,
  • PCR,
  • Bacteriological,
  • General clinical,
  • Serological,
  • Express.

Biochemical and Immunochemical laboratory is equipped with TS4000, Cobas e311 biochemical and Cobas e 411 fourth generation immunochemical equipments, which carry out the following examinations:

  • Substrates
  • Ferments
  • Lipidic exchange
  • Coagulogram
  • Electrolytes
  • Cardio markers
  • Diabetes monitoring
  • Thyroid gland hormones
  • Adrenal gland function diagnosis
  • Rehabilitation function disorder diagnosis
  • Acute phase proteins
  • Infections diagnosis
  • Anemia differentiation diagnosis

Laboratory equipments can study various biological materials and fluids.

Appropriate specialists’ skills and available equipments give an opportunity to diagnose the disease in a short period of time thereby helping the doctor to focus on the right treatment issue.

In the clinical laboratory there are Sysmex 4000 and Urysis 1000 equipments which carry out the following observations:

  • Common blood analysis
  • CBC+DIF+Ret
  • Cerebrospinal fluid examination
  • Cellular study of different biological fluids (pleural, pericardiac, etc.)
  • Vermin diagnosis and coprological survey
  • Cellular study of various biological materials (phlegm, sexual excretion, sperm)
  • Total urine test, as well as qualitative rections such as glucose, ketonic bodies, bilirubin and urobilin detection reactions
  • Multiple tests to assess the renal function (Nicheporenco’s and Addis-Kakovski’s methods, Zimnitski’s experience).

Serologic Laboratory performs blood isoserological and serologic examinations:

  • Blood group determination by cross method
  • Blood rhesus determination
  • Hepatitis
  • Brucellosis reaction: titer
  • Right-Hedelson’s reaction
  • Fetal infections

It is hard to imagine a full diagnostic Molecular DNA analysis’ Laboratory in the 21st century without PCR laboratory.

This ultra diagnostic laboratory is equipped with MagnaPure and Light Cycler 480 II, first of which automatically separates DNA or RNT from biological liquids, the second provides RT-PCR by fluorescence method.

  • Fetal infections
  • Hepatitis
  • Herpes
  • Tuberculosis
  • HIV

The experts of Microbiological laboratory carry out the following studies:

  • Blood sterility test
  • Disbacteriosis
  • Staphylococcosis
  • Excretion bacteriological examination
  • Scraping bacteriological analysis
  • Roto-Adeno virus
  • Streptococcus «A»

Express laboratory is equipped with Reflatron, Cobas 121 analyzers which allows making short term information about:

  • Blood acid-base balance
  • Gas
  • Electrolytes balance

Just a few minutes are needed to receive the vital parameters such as haemoglobin, leukocyte, creatinin, urine, bilirubin, glucose etc.

The laboratory works 24 hours, without days off.

The Laboratory is cooperating with YSMU’s numerous academic departments and clinics, takes part in some of the scientific activities of different chairs.

Annually foreign students are examined here against Malaria and HIV.
